Fire

Poem

A spark catching onto that in which kindling adorn

Begins a life, and a flickering flame is born

A flame that fosters freely and grows without stop

Soon a roaring fire replaces that crackle and pop

A fire that swirls and dances in the joys of life's fun

Radiating loving light as blinding as the sun

But blind growth hides that in which was once greater

For it's easy to forget a fire's fleeting nature

A candle that burns twice as bright lasts for only half as long

The flame's brilliant light can only burn until it's gone

Summer succumbs to winter without any hope of spring

Empty chills siphon fading heat from it's very being

But to have lived a life as bright as it's fire remarked

Can only kindly kindle the flames of future sparks

God, this is beautiful.

A fire can be seen in so many ways, and yet a vision that is often thought for fire is a passionate love. I instantly thought of that, and yet I had a burning flame in my mind the entire time. This is so damn beautiful, I can’t even get over it or gather my thoughts, it has well and truly left me lost for words.

In my mind the spark/fire is used to convey love, how it can start as small as a “spark” but “soon a roaring fire replaces that crackle and pop”.

It reminds that love can have a great effect on those around you, but also reminds you that to love strong is hard, and you can only love as your flame is fed (which to me is that those who love need love in return)

“For it’s easy to forget a Fire’s fleeting nature” reminded me that people can take love for granted and I really like that line.

At the end I feel the metaphor has turned to the loss of love or heartbreak, but that the lessons learned can be a cause for “future sparks”

As far as more technical things the alliteration at “kindly kindle” is an interesting choice, though gave me a little tongue twisting action when reading. I like a lot of the rhyme choices (I’m kinda biased in that I like rhyme a lot in poetry). I like that the subject is a fire and there’s metaphors to seasons and temperature in general which I think makes the poem versatile in that the reader has a wider range to apply their own meaning. Overall a good read and poem and I’d like to see more.

Your reference to the season change got me. That is so poetic. There is so much to say there. I love the greater themes in this poem!! My only suggestion is to break up the rhythm a little. For example,

"That crackle And that pop"

But I love it! Good job! I would read a book full of poems like this.

I loved the rhyming and rhythm in the poem. This poem has a sense of celebratory, chantlike structure. I loved the use of alliteration in fire's fleeting. Nice touch. I felt that A candle that burns bright...line was a blit cliched. Also I felt that you could make more unique choices in the poem.

This is really emotive. The rhyming for one is extremely playful and lightens what is otherwise quite an evocative piece. I really enjoyed how you transition from the spark to the seasons but then circle it back to the spark.
