Trouble laning on jinx

jinx

I (high silver) have recently picked up jinx and have had a bit of trouble laning with her. I find myself often being out shoved, out poked and simply out dps'd until mid game. I keep getting bard supports who really can't do a ton in lane and I'm just confused, if you guys have any tips I'd love them!

Thanks

Jinx is a scaling champion, but she actually has alot of power in laning phase, provided she has a support that synergizes well with her. Pretty much any support that has the ability to engage on/cc the enemy from decently far away. Lux, morgana, rell, leona, nautilus, blitzcrank, xerath etc. They stun/hook/root/whatever, you put your traps under the enemy while they're ccd. They have to stand still for like 3-4 seconds, all the while you slap them with autos. She synergizes well with enchanter supports, but later in the game when they have ardent censor and all that.

Anyways a big part of her kit that should allow you to not be poked out of lane, or be shoved in is her Q. You should be switching between rockets and minigun, ALOT in laning phase. Make sure you take presence of mind so you don't go oom.

During laning phase:

When to use rockets:

  • when you need to push the wave
  • when you need to trim the wave
  • I don't think any adc in the game, besides like sivir/ tristana has better wave clear than jinx because of her q btw
  • when you want to poke. *watch the hp of every minion in the lane. If you don't have a minion to kill, and the enemy adc does, wait for them to walk up, switch to your rocket, and get an auto off, IF it's safe to do so. You have a pretty long range with the rockets, so you should be able to most of the time provided you keep minions between you and the enemy support if its like a nautilus or something
  • to get off 1 or 2 more autos after the trade/ all in is over as the enemy is running from you. And vice versa if you are not the aggressor in the trade. Try to predict when you think the enemy will turn around to walk back when the trade is just about over. You can shoot them in the back once or twice, and they can't really retaliate as long as you back up after you 1 or 2 autos. If you play mages mid vs yasuo, you know what I'm talking about when I say "predict when they'll turn around"
  • if the enemy is just out of range of your rockets, but standing behind his minions. The splash damage can hit them. Careful though cuz this'll push the wave, which could be lethal to you.
  • short trades, if you think the enemy adc is gonna try to get a cheeky auto off on you, switch to your rocket and give em a return shot. You will win that trade almost 100% of the time cuz the rocket deals 110% ad, so you just win every 1 or 2 auto trade by default against anyone except against like mf or a caitlyn with a headshot ready to go for obvious reasons.

When to use mini gun:

  • when you just want to last hit
  • extended trades/all ins *you do more dps when autoing a single target with the mini gun.

You should have the mini gun out most of the time, and just be swapping to the rocket launcher real quick for the above scenarios.

In teamfights though, when you have your hurricane, and the enemies are all clumped up, it's rockets all day. You hit 3 enemies with hurricane, then there's splash damage too. So like if you auto attack 3 targets with your rockets, and hurricane, and they're all next to eachother, they're all essentially getting hit with 4 auto attacks. 1 from just hitting them, and 3 for the splash damage coming off of each of the 3 targets, it's insane how much aoe she does.

Also when she presses Q, it's like a soft auto reset. It won't refresh hail of blades, but the wiki says this

"Jinx's first attack after switching to  Fishbones (the rocket launcher) can be triggered after 0.4 seconds, instead of using the attack timer"

So you can actually auto once with the mini gun, then swap to the rocket launcher, and get another (more damaging) auto off quicker than if you were to just auto twice with the minigun considering her base attack speed is .625/s which means she takes more than 1 second between auto attacks before she gets any attack speed. So thats another good tool to trade with. Just auto q auto, and back up.

And obviously, throw your w out randomly to poke if they give you the opportunity.

Just play her more, and use this knowledge, and you should get it eventually ;)

Read the full in depth comment before me, but also be aware that Jinx early game is about to get more difficult. She's losing 50 base health on Wednesday.

Play aggressive early and push with ur rockeys, you have alot of pushing power, but dont go all in.

CS better. Die less. Play for your 3 item power spike.

Jinx can easily 1v5 most games when she reaches 3 items. Your goal is to get to three items as quickly as possible. Group less, farm more, think about waves. Take jungle camps when you can. Constantly identify the nearest gold, and take it.

You do not win 1v1s. You should not be trying to fight. Just go to CS. Take it. And try to his your three item spike as quickly as possible.

If you want to be able to help your team in those early to mid dragon fights, a late gamy hyper carry isn't your best bet.
