I Can Fly! I'm Just Not Allowed to Anymore...

My mother was the one who taught me how to fly. I was still young, but I picked it up quickly. LIke all of our kind, I had the innate ability, I just needed to be shown how to use it.

There is nothing like flying. Soaring through the air with total freedom, going anywhere you want.

I couldn’t have been happier, or so I thought.

But then I met Lois. We saw each other casually for a while and then before I knew it a year had passed and she surprised me by telling me she was pregnant.

It was harder than I thought being a father. And of course there wasn’t just one, but two more over the years.

And we taught each one of them to fly too. One by one, they learned to soar through the skies just like their parents. The looks of wonderment on their faces I will never forget.

But then, in the dead of night, the outsiders came for us.

As we were sleeping soundly they snuck up on us and surprised us.

I tried to fight back - but there was no way I could stand against them. Not only were they far bigger than me, but there were several of them, armed with advanced equipment that was specially designed for our capture.

We didn't stand a chance.

There was a long journey, confined in a dark enclosed space. The worst part was being separated - not knowing if I would ever see Lois and the kids again. I was terrified, with no idea where we could be headed.

I was groggy when they finally brought me back out into the light.

Bright white and artificial - the light stung my eyes in a way that the sun never could. The air was cold and dry, not like the jungles of my homeland, and I knew I was very far from that place where I had once learned to fly.

“Lois? Megan? Joey? Chris? Sammy?” I called out again and again.

There was no answer.

I continued to call out desperately, crying their names over and over, hoping to hear a response, but there was nothing.

Despondent, I stared out into the distance ahead of me, trying to make out the details of this strange place.

But nothing made sense.

I was encased in a clear, hard barrier - scratched and marred from years of damage. Damage from other prisoners.

Banging on it with my beak, I tried desperately to break it open, but it was solid as rock.

“Hey, stop that! Stupid bird!”

I turned around to see my captors were approaching, looking angry. I backed away from the glass in submission and they slowed their progress and eventually turned away from me, looking bored.

Whatever this “Pet Zone” place is - I will escape. I will be free.

And I will find my wife and children, mark my words.

I will have my revenge on all of you.

Evil Hoomans.
