"I'm just worried the house won't have enough different, separate sections of roof. Thank goodness for the tiny windows though. I'm glad you were able to work those in."
Honestly, what is it with people building new houses with tiny windows? The bigger they are the better… especially if you have an AC for the summer
If I had that kind of money I'd get 5x the window surface that house has
100% on this.
Even a cursory glance at truly opulent or even just well-designed places will show that the people with money want an unobstructed, clear view, not arrow-slits.
Philistines.
lmao at the peak "peaking" out behind the turret
and its offset... REEEEEEEEEEE
The rare gable-turret
I would like this much more if each window in that turret had a 24 pounder long gun sticking out of it
This would have been a solid C- house design if not for that godawful turret.
Argh, and they couldn't even center the stupid thing on the dumb piece of wall they stuck it on!
That is, hands down, the most fuckéd turret I’ve ever seen.
It's so out of sync it looks like a house with another house behind it.
This house would be really nice IF they hadn’t stuck that huge turret haphazardly and off center. But that turret is so offensive that it ruins the entire house.
If you don’t look closely, you miss the “demi-turret” - half turret stuck onto a flat facade that has its own roofline. And the roofline on the right side where there’s that odd area between the upper and lower gables. I like this house from a distance but there’s dementia in the details
Was looking at this on my phone and I'm like "Eh, I've seen worse." Then I zoomed in on the top of the turret and I cannot believe that someone rendered that design and hit "save."
Ooh, did a reverse image search and this is in Parker Texas. The whole development is magnificent! Start here and see what gems you can find https://goo.gl/maps/CFJ41qMP35FZVS1J9
It’s actually in Rockwall, TX
That explains it - I did a full trip around the estate and still couldn't find OP's house. However, it seems very likely that they're from the same company, as the designs have lots of commonalities. This company is clearly the source of much McMansionery
Have you ever been to north Texas? Pretty much every tract builder builds some form of mcmansion almost exclusively.
To get you started, here's a couple of fun ones.
I love the "surprised face" on this one https://goo.gl/maps/CPzoQ7KmzFCjKTd38 and the interesting idea of fake bricked out windows on a square turret. Don't see that often!
And this one is great for many reasons, but particularly the roof https://goo.gl/maps/KFrWnn8ZezfPNrHGA
To be honest, every house on the development is a joy to behold. Pure McMansionery.
The houses bother me but when I noticed the seemingly random placement of the circles from the trees in the grass... they're not even in lines.
LOL. Grand Homes is one of the builders so I looked them up. They have floor plans named after Downton Abbey 🤣
jfc it's the motherlode of McMansions. I think my favourite is Downton Abbey III https://www.grandhomes.com/plan/downton-abbey-iii/568/ (not to be confused with the three other Downton Abbeys they have), which is monstrous.
You should post make a separate post of this catalogue, it's awesome!
Why are there vinyl records on the ceiling?
I nearly died when I saw they have MULTIPLE Downton Abbey plans. Imagine having your very own Downton Abbey estate in a Texas subdivision! I don’t know if it’d be appropriate for this sub. People would probs get pissed and tell me to post on the floorplans sub instead. Thought I appreciate this magnificent find!
Oops I didn’t realize the DA plans are mostly the same. My favorite part of III is the “farmhouse” sign. I don’t recall the Crawley’s having that piece of artwork in their collection at DA.
This looks so much like my previous neighborhood we just moved away from in Frisco, TX. We had a new-build as well, but any decent realtor would warn away from Grand Homes. They had a (not good) reputation for sure.
Grand Homes is definitely the quality as exemplified in the definition of a “McMansion.” Our neighborhood and whole surrounding area was full of this style (some with turrets even, but this turret & roofline takes it to a whole ‘nother level). Most looked alright, especially depending on the builder and if the quality of materials and build were higher.
Something that is NEVER mentioned though… so many workers at the build sites used no safety gear whatsoever. I mean, they would be on the rooftops tossing bricks and boards to each other. Just in our new neighborhood alone, 3 workers died from job site accidents/falls/etc.
This is a certified posting; does anyone have a public listing for this thing?
I just need to behold more of this-ness.
oh. no. It's worse than I thought.
I did a reverse image search and found the development.
There's a red brick version of this thing, AND THEY HAVE A SECOND, SMALLER TURRET ON THE RIGHT WITH A DOOR IN IT.
You can't see it in this post's photo.
$2.0 million +/- $200,000
That actually doesn't look too bad- potentially even cozy if they'd shrunk the windows a bit, but fuck me that roof peak...

so there's a roofline for the turret? why? what a horrible house.
I don't understand the little roof peeking out from behind the turret.

whats the issue here?
Its fine. You're not allowed to have anything unusual, is that it?
How many brick styles are on the front of the building? How many rooflines and roof styles? How many window types? The house isn't ginormous, but it's out of proportion and completely lacking in coherent style.
Look, if you think it's fine, that's fine, but it's def a McMansion
what is with this subs obsession with roof lines?
these roof lines are just fine.
Hey I respect your right to have an opinion, but your opinion is wrong.
what is with this subs obsession with roof lines?
It's a dead giveaway of the poor understanding of architecture and aesthetics held by the people who build these things. And if you think that's superficial, hang around. You'll soon realize all the ways that poor understanding of architecture and aesthetics negatively affects the structure and function of these houses.

You can have whatever you want, but if what you want is a largish house built with crappy materials and outrageous, non-cohesive architecture, that thing will be made fun of here.
Go start a sub praising these abominations if you like, but we'll do what we do here, which is make fun of them.
C’mon now, this place is beautiful. Maybe the turret roof is a little weird but no way in hell this is a McMansion. 🤦🏻♂️
The multiple roof lines, the weird roof over the turret, the cut off and undersized windows on the left side. This has McMansion elements.
It’s ugly as hell.
Yeah its nice. Not my taste but I'm glad it exists.
The fact that the turret has a roof peak right on top of it though!
This might be the single worst architectural McMansion thing I have ever seen. The fact that a builder put their name on that is astonishing.
That it's even off-center makes it even better/worse.
And it's OFF CENTER!
Talk about a hat on a hat.
I checked out the whole estate, and it's magnificent. This image was taken from a real estate listing for a different house, and sums it up https://imgur.com/a/W6Hqn5s
If you want to explore the estate, start here https://goo.gl/maps/CFJ41qMP35FZVS1J9.
Holy crap! Those pillars at the ends of the driveways take the cake.
Omg, I was thinking it's not so bad, but this picture is depressing. Maybe in 30 years when trees grow in it'll be better.
That may be the worst turret I’ve ever seen…How marvelous.
The owner wanted a pair of sunrooms that could survive a hailstorm.

It is definitely a McMansion.
