ryan0702's final 7 rounder w/ trades

7 Round Mock with Trades

A few notes here on the insights gained from these results and over the past 2 days via social world:

• Saints won't wait this long to get weapons

• Philly won't keep this many picks

• Accidentally crossed off OG for Houston despite having missed drafting one for them (let’s pretend they trade for one)

• There will be player trades, not just pick swaps (Deebo, Jimmy G, Baker, Quinn, etc. all in play)

• Jets look eager to move Becton, signaling OT at 4, even though I think they love Sauce as BPA otherwise (I know Jets fans don't love it and say Saleh doesn't value CBs, but that's only true until it isn't and Sauce is a special kind of player)

• Whispers that Quay Walker will be the 1st LB off the board and will not make it past NE. This sends the whole mock into a mess because I don't think Lloyd slips to the 2nd, he's too talented.

Amazing for the Bengals

Seriously. Can we just do this and call it?

The only pick that I didn't like was Haskell in the fifth over Curtis Brooks, and at that point I can live with it given that we somehow managed to magically get both Linderbaum and Booth. I guess we could've picked a different TE?

Just such an ideal draft for the Bengals. Kudos to paying attention to their visits as well and using late round picks on guys they've shown interest in.

I have a hard time believing Seattle moves down 7 slots for a 2nd RD pick.

A 2nd round pick??? He’s rumored to be a potential top 10 pick

ThatGuy377Seahawks•

No I'm talking about the trade it's self.

3
ryan0702OPVikings•

Ohhh haha ok. Just basing these values on the standardized trade charts, but also could see even less value placed on this particular class.

Nice draft in the later rounds especially. Passing on Linderbaum I can't really get behind though, because out current center is a better guard than he is center and it would fully solidify our OLine with that pick. I'll always like Watson, and the 1-2 punch of Zyon McCollum and Bryan Cook in the secondary is fantastic. I don't love the trade up for DeAngelo Malone although I do think he is good value, and Chris Paul is always decent. I would also like to grab Charlie Kolar personally, would match our receiving TE need very well.

Great draft for Detroit. Big fan of Chad Muma.

I would nut for this giants draft

Love that draft for Green Bay.

2
rmccarthy10Giants•

Giants are good.

I wouldn't waste a pick on a running back though. I would have went tight end there but regardless, great draft for the G-Men

2
ryan0702OPVikings•

I’ve seen a lot connecting them to Cook, and even RBs before him and am getting the feeling they are really thinkin about Saquon contingency plans with his injury and production issues.

2
rmccarthy10Giants•

I think you're right in terms of question marks floating around Barkley... but I really don't think the Giants are going to answer those question marks with the draft pick. We got so many other problems and running back is one of those positions you can grab off the discard-pile all year round.

Love the trades and moving back to bolster next year's picks. Also did well with filling the Eagles needs, but if the board fell this way, I'd prefer Cine over Katlaftis. With Sweat and Barnett returning, Graham coming back from injury, and Reddick added, we can wait and grab DE in the 3rd or 4th. I'd like to see them take Cine to start this year, and a SS later to take over this year or next for Harris. But Howie loves the trenches, so it could definitely go this way. But the trades seem realistic and Howie's MO, so well done.

2
ryan0702OPVikings•

Yea I was really leaning into his love for depth in the trench and talks connecting them to Karlaftis, specifically, but I could definitely see Cine as an option there.

I was all aboard until the 4th round.

Would absolutely love this for the Jets

2
aaron7275•

This would be great for the Giants.

2

Well done brother. I appreciate your hard work. I really want my Cowboys to draft Jelani Woods TE Virginia. He’s creeping up the boards.

2
ryan0702OPVikings•

It was only a few weeks ago that he was a consensus 5th or 6th round guy. This year has been fun for the fast moves up and down the board.

1
jethead70Chiefs•

I’m pretty anti trade up personally because I think we need multiple receivers, corners, and edges

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

I really wanted to wheel and deal with KC a bit just because I can’t imagine them stockpiling their roster with that many rookies. There are clear needs, but I think even a few of those gaps have guys they’d prefer over a lot of the day 3 options.

2
jeterb98Bears•

I really dont think the Bears are gonna pass on Linderbaum twice, i think if hes there, hes an instant pick at 39, plenty of WR depth left at that point no need to force it. Also don't think the bears would trade up for Tyler Smith, think they would be happy to let him fall to them or just take someone else, if it was a first round talent falling then maybe they would move up for them

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

I have a borderline 1st round grade on both Smith and Watson, with a lot of smoke connecting them to Chicago, so we may just have very different boards here

3
jeterb98Bears•

That’s fair, I still don’t understand passing on Linderbaum tho who is a for sure 1st round grade and who we’ve also been connected to and fits our scheme, unless you’re just particularly low on him

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

I love him, but the noise around him is that teams are much lower than expected due to how he measures. Maybe he doesn’t slide that far, and while I am higher on him than Smith and Watson, I’m also higher on the connection to Chicago with those guys than I am on them going center there. Both greater positions of need when it comes to helping Fields imo.

2
jeterb98Bears•

I doubt we’re low on him tho, Poles has said he wants to get lighter and faster at the Oline which Linderbaum fits well, plus he’s about the same size as our shitty center Mustipher

I personally don’t see Smith as a starting tackle yet, he can be a guard but then that’s why I’d pick linderbaum since linderbaum at C>smith at G and then we could move Patrick to guard where he’s better at(least according to off) but if you see Smith as being able to start at tackle without a liability I can see why you’d pick him over linderbaum there

1
TijdbomTexans•

You listed iOL as our biggest need, which it is, then crossed it off but didnt spend 1 pick on an offensive lineman...

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

Shoot. I think I had crossed it off initially when I picked an OT at 3 (which would push Howard inside to solve for OG) and then changed the pick and forgot to uncross that selection. Error on my part.

I love the London trade, but the trade with the Panthers is a bit odd. I mean on the surface it's fine but we kinda need some young guys now. I wouldn't hate it cause the Panthers are supposed to be bad, though.

Also I don't think we'd go for Damone Clark. Just not good enough to risk it. I think we'd take someone like Thornton, Malone, Braxton Jones, Danny Gray, Ezukanman, and Farrell.

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

I think I’m lookin at the Panthers pick as likely top 5 in the 2023 2nd, and a better draft class, and you guys having too much draft capital compared to the number of actual gaps rookies might fill on your roster. With 3 other top 60 picks, I figured they could spare that. As far as Clark, I see him as a guy that would be a top 50 talent if he was healthy, and LB as a position where you can take someone that is a year away. High risk-high reward scenario where him and Bolton could be a very good longterm duo at that level.

IIHURRlCANEIIChiefs•

and you guys having too much draft capital compared to the number of actual gaps rookies might fill on your roster.

Eh...but I don't think we do. CB2, Safety 3 (they will play a ton of snaps) Edge 1/3, DT3, LB3, RT, and WR are all places we could definitely use talent.

I don't know why Willie Gay is so much of an unknown that many people forget him, but we are also very high on him. I don't mind it too much, I just liked a lot of players on the board there over him.

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

Even with unloading some picks, I think this still produces potential starters at 4 of those spots. And it’s not that I am forgetting Gay, I just think he’s got far more limited upside than Clark, but he’s also likely got a much higher floor.

1
IIHURRlCANEIIChiefs•

I think my main issue is there is no real Edge rusher. Logan Hall is a move around guy but would likely play more inside than out. I think putting him full time at Edge would be a misuse of his skillset.

I still love the London trade, just would adjust the mid rounds a bit. Still pretty good.

jampersandsBuccaneers•

Travis Jones in the first is fine, but trading back from 60-73 and only getting a 5th in return is pretty mediocre return. I would think it would be worth at least Indy’s 4th (JJ trade chart says the 4th isn’t quite enough, tbh) which would allow us to take one of a few prospects that would be pretty valuable to us, Ex: Akayleb Evans, Jeremy Ruckert, Alex Wright just to name a few.

That said, I like Rhyan with our second pick, he’s the kind of athlete we look for. Dameon Pierce is also a fun pick, but a bit of a luxury. Nik Bonitto would’ve been a steal in the 3rd that I would have definitely preferred. Alontae Taylor or Bryan Cook would also be worth considering at that pick, although more of a toss up between Pierce and those two.

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

They also get a 4th. So 13 spots for a 4th and a 5th. I just don’t see a ton of roster gaps and hate how the board shook out for you guys. Agree on Rhyan and on Pierce. Pierce feels like someone that will be better at the next level than college, as he was misused, and like he plugs right in as maybe a better Gio in a year.

1
jampersandsBuccaneers•

Huh, 13 spots for a 4th and a 5th would make more sense to me, but it doesn’t seem like we made an extra pick in the 4th. We already have pick 133 in the fourth at baseline, and I think we only made one pick in your 4th round… maybe I’m missing something, but it doesn’t seem like we made that extra pick in the fourth.

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

It’s a 2023 4th, when you guys may have more contracts expiring and gaps to fill.

1
jampersandsBuccaneers•

Ohhhhhhhhhh I should’ve guessed. Thanks!

2
Jaguars6Jaguars•

I like it outside of Bell and Diesch. Considering the latter is a 6th rounder, I guess I’m fine with it.

1
ryan0702OPVikings•

I know people are down on Bell, but I still love his upside and think he’s an excellent complement for that group. Clearly gaps in his game, but the guy moves like an acrobat and could be a perfect to cover any of TL’s inadequacies imo

I'm sorry but not a fan of the Syler pick. OL is just not as big as a need as WR or DB
