TF Green Craziness

Question / Suggestion

Haven’t flown into/out of TF Green in 10+ years. Is it liable to be wicked busy tomorrow for a 545am flight? Back in the day (god I feel old) you didn’t have to get there more than 60-90 min before departure even if you were checking a bag. Is it still the same? I reviewed their website but couldn’t find much. Edit:Accidentally made a blank post

You can probably go from curb to plane in 15 minutes in my experience

TF Green is my favorite airport because it is the quickest moving I’ve experienced. Even before thanksgiving flying out of there it only took 15 mins through security. I don’t arrive earlier than 30-45 minutes before boarding

Remember, plane boards 30 minutes before takeoff, so plan on being in the building for that.

However, it's TF Green, not Logan. If it's not school vacation week, you'll be fine. Oh, and you can also make coffee at home, and not buy a $17,841.00 one at the airport.

I thought you couldn't get through security with liquids?

Like most of RI, there are Dunkies past security.... Save a dime and make your own coffee.

can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.

You are allowed to hide them in your body. Just bring your French press and dry grounds then you can just piss the hot water in after you're through.

A truly twisted mind. :)

The only time I've had a line for TF Green that took more than 20-30 minutes was the Friday morning of a holiday weekend, where it was closer to an hour. For a regular Friday AM flight that's probably one of the first ones going out that day? It'll be quick

Don't kid yourself. That's the way it used to be, but I had a pre-6 am flight out on a Thursday last month, and when I got in the TSA line, I was almost at the entrance door to the terminal. Never seen anything like that at TFG before, It did move relatively quickly (about 30 mins in line), but I got to the gate just as they started boarding, so a few more minutes in the security line and I'd have missed my flight. Turns out that Southwest added 4 more early flights, and Delta added 2. So that's what, another 1600 or so people trying to get through that line. Better to get there early and wait around than show up last minute and miss the flight.

If it's 545 am flight then TSA will probably be a line of about four people lol.

2 if you don't count the workers

Update: Originally there was no text so now my comment seems dumb 🤦🏻 End update

What about it

2

Legit can show up 15 mins before

In my experience at that hour the airport is fairly quiet and you should get through very quickly. I always get to TF Green early just in case and I'm always waiting around for an hour+ for my flight.

My challenge with TF Green recently was the parking. I’m flying on Sunday and I’m giving myself an extra hour just for parking.

Went through three lots to get a space. Would really help if they had some kind of status board with number of spots.

Good to know about the parking. Thankfully my wife is being a good sport and getting up to drive me but I will keep that in mind for whenever I fly next!

I’ve found Ubers to be cheap and plentiful to save my husband from having to get up too

Spothero app (or similar), you can prebook the garage C for much cheaper. Reserved spot, you just scan your mobile QR code. I do this for business trips.

There are a number of parking lots with fast shuttles near there that end up being cheaper than the garages

1

Really? I've never seen the long-term lot be anywhere close to full, which is funny cause it's cheaper than the garages, not much further, and there's no minimum # of days

With pre check and being dropped off it took me 25 minutes to check a bag and get dropped off and get to my gate. If you’re not checking a bag probably like 15.

It’s smooth sailing

We had a flight out at 5:30am a couple of weeks back and it was fine to be there 30 minutes before flight left but that's a tad too close for comfort, so 60 minutes is perfect. It is a bit busy in the morning because a lot of people love to fly out early in the morning.

We all have TSA precheck so it was pretty fast.

In the last 5 years, TF Green has been some of my most pleasant experiences of any airport

Tf is the best. I would pay the extra $100-$150 if possible to fly out of prov versus going to Logan.

You’ll be at the terminal ten minutes after walking in the front door.

back in january i flew out of tf green late morning on a tuesday. i think i made it through security in about 5 minutes tops.

My guess is it will be busy, but not insane. If you're walking through the doors at 4:45, you should be fine. I made the mistake once of thinking it wouldn't be busy for that hour of travel, and was sorely mistaken.

Put it this way - I had a 6am flight one time, so I stayed at my buddies in Cranston. Scheduled an Uber for 4:45am and 5am. Nobody showed up. Finally got a Lyft to respond at 5:25, got to the airport by 5:35, walked through security and to my gate conveniently at the end of the terminal (Southwest) and straight onto the plane. Doors closed behind me and we were in the air within 20 minutes of me getting out of the car. So, you don’t need to cut it that close, but it’s an absolute breeze at that hour. Dont be surprised if Dunkin hasn’t opened yet, though. They take their time.

TSA doesn't even open until 4, so if you get there and there's a long line, it's because they weren't letting people through. They bring in a bunch of agents and move people through fast though - the first flights leave at 5.

See y’a there buddy

As long as you don't plan to wait in the Dunkin line you should be good. Bag check takes longer than security most times, in my experience, but I get through both in 20-40m consistently.
