Author's Britpick Thread, Ch. 1-37

I neither permit nor deny the manufacturing of printed copies; such things are as inevitable as torrenting, and will occur whether I say yea or nay. However, this has caused me to raise in priority the revision of the first chapters. Among other plans, I am now accepting any and all Britpicks on Ch. 1-37. (Britpicks are detected cases where American English differs from British English; someplace where a British character, or less urgently the text itself, talks like only an American would.)

If you are not actually British and going by someone else's instructions, please say so in your comment and attach a source or confidence rating - I've gotten alleged Britpicks before, from Americans, which actual British people have told me aren't necessary. Similarly, if you are British and see such a comment, please feel free to verify it as true or false. Sorry for this specification, it's just that I have gotten unnecessary fixes offered in the past.
