Transfer pak tips?

Bought a transfer pak recently and it doesn’t seem to fit snugly into my controller and because of that, it won’t work (got it to actually load up the game 1 time out or about 30 tries). Anyone have a similar experience and find a fix? I tried using a second controller and laying it down but it never worked unless I was physically holding it tighter myself.
