Puppy found dead fish in yard
Today is the first day I’m taking my 13 week old 3.4 lb toy poodle puppy to go potty in the yard. It is fenced in and she is on a leash just in case. I live in central TX near a pond with lots of ducks that visit our yard. One of the ducks must have dropped a small fish and it began to mummify in the sun. Somehow my dog found it and began chewing on it.
She probably only had it in her mouth for 15-30 seconds before I saw what it was and got it out.
The fish itself is pretty desiccated- I suppose it was baked in the sun. However there were tiny worm/larvae things crawling around. I put the fish and worms in a plastic bag in the fridge in case I need to test them.
This all happened about 20 mins ago and she did not consume the fish, just chewed on it. I’m more worried if she swallowed any worms.
She’s had her first round of shots as well as the following dewormers from the breeder. Her birthdate was 1/23/22
pyantel pamote (2/06 and 2/20)
Fenbendazole (3/07 and 4/04 for 5 days each)
She is acting completely fine- just mad that I took away her “treasure”.
Is this something I should be concerned about? I’ve read dogs have pretty acidic stomachs but I’m still worried she may have swallowed a worm.
