Day 0 of starting medication, excited to start
A couple weeks ago I finally made the jump at age 25 to talk to a psychologist. We didn't go too much in depth and the conversation switched topics half way through to depression and death. But today I spoke to a psychiatrist to get prescribed a medication and it was a lot more in depth than I expected. I told him everything that I wanted to tell my psychologist. I got teary eyed but held it together. It felt SO GOOD to finally tell someone everything I've struggled with. He let me say everything I needed to say. It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. I've never went in depth about my social anxiety and the terrible side effects I've been getting as a result of it such as tremors, almost failing high school because of it, completely avoiding college, losing out on jobs, failing at work, etc.
I got prescribed propranolol & sertraline. I've always been anti-long term medication, but I'm changing my mindset. I realize I need it and that's okay. It's not going to destroy my body and if I do notice anything I don't like I can ween off of it. I'm ready for this next chapter in life. I'm already prepared to do things I've been avoiding because my SA has stopped me. I'm going to the shopping mall by myself this month on my birthday, i'm going to the dentist, heck I may go on a date. No matter what happens at least I can say I have finally put in effort to fix this mess. I've done a great job and controlling my SA through breathing & not letting my brain get worked up before an anxious situation. But it just isn't enough. This I hope and pray will be the cherry on top to a new life, a better life.
