Anyone have friends or associates who got their epiphany?

My old friend from high school, 7 years ago give or take, is now a Chief in the U.S. Navy. He's been in for approximately 6 years and is currently attached to a carrier that's made the news recently(hint hint).

I still keep in touch with him and lately he's been going on a tirade on how shitty his leadership is and how terrible the environment can get there.

He told me a story about how he got written up for talking back to a Master Chief about work responsibilities and how Master Chief wanted my friend to be the leading Chief of the dept for a week so that he can "know what it's like so when you're promoted you'll be ready".

I never understood why in the Navy you would have more responsibility than your current paygrade allows with stupid ass leadership assuming you want to be promoted so you should be performing above that paygrade. And then you try to explain why they're wrong it's considered, "disrespect" or "talking back".

In the civilian world that type of authoritarian attitude is laughed at/torn into. I remember when I was in, my shitty leadership would make me do extra pointless shit that in reality was THEIR job, I would then bring this up and would be told to "watch my language". Am I getting extra pay for this? BAH? No? Then I'm doing the work at MY paygrade. Then they wanted to turn around and say morale is good and we're a decent family. I can see why they wanted to stay in the Navy, their fucking bullshit artificial power that you have over superior minds would evaporate IMMEDIATELY in the civilian sector.

My friend told me members of Congress visited the command today and will continue to make visits. I feel for him honestly.
