Interested in becoming an RA. Is it too late?

Hey, so I'm currently a sophomore and I'm interested in moving in to a dorm for the Fall 2022 semester. I heard that RAs get housing and meal plans for free (or at least at heavily reduced prices, so I've heard), so I'm interested in becoming an RA, otherwise I'd probably just stay at home due to costs.

But is it too late to apply to become an RA for next semester? Also I think housing applications begun some time ago, so I'm already pretty late to apply for housing. All I could find was a pdf about RA compensation and responsibilities for the 2021-2022 year (this year), so maybe it's too early to apply for RA next semester? But if that were the case, then why would housing applications be so much earlier than RA applications.......
