Welcoming tips for supporting each other through intense hardships
Both my (30s F) and my husband’s (40s M) moms are battling stage IV lung cancer. We are both very close to our mothers and play major supportive roles in their care plans. Of course, each of us are riding our own roller coasters of sadness, exhaustion, anger, hope, despair, and pre-grief as we navigate these challenging times with our moms. At the same time, we’re also taking care of our child (a third-grader), juggling our work responsibilities, and trying to manage all the usual household upkeep tasks. It’s a lot! My husband and I have a very strong, healthy relationship, and we’re good about communicating our needs and limitations. I just can’t help but feel like with everything else going on, I’m not doing enough to support him. How do you support your tapped-out partner while you yourself are absolutely tapped out?
