[TOMT][BOOK][2000s???] Book about a red-headed teenage girl going through space with an alien

The book is about a girl who was sheltered for most of her life and was taken care of by a robot mom. Later in the story, the girl's home gets destroyed and the robot mom does (I think). She later meets an alien that takes her somewhere? I dunno my memory is muddy after that.

The book had mostly text but had a few pictures in it. The illustrations had mostly white, gray and green colors.
