I'm so glad I'm moving out for college soon [Rant] [Family/Friends]
My parents are incredibly anti-LGBTQIA, but what frustrates me the most are the following things:
-
They are so, so vocal about it. I'll come home from school sometimes and they'll just casually be talking about how educating kids about gender/sexuality is going to ruin society and CoRruPt ThE cHiLdrEn!1!! Which is incredibly frustrating because as a queer kid, I didn't even know that the things I were experiencing weren't what the majority experienced--I learnt about asexuality at the age of 15 on my own by accident while online, and if I never had that chance encounter, I might still think I'm straight. Seriously, kids need to be validated at a young age and know that if they feel weird about their agab or if they like someone who's the same gender as them, that's a thing that exists and it's okay. Kids shouldn't be forced into feeling like there's something wrong with them, or that they're broken because they just were never told that what they're going through is an experience shared by many others. It makes me mad knowing that parents are so against needed education when it can benefit kids regardless of their own sexuality--are they disgusted by the thought that they don't know everything, and that there are people out there who live different lifestyles than them just because humans are different, and that's a good thing? I don't even know anymore.

They don't even bother to educate themselves about what they're hating on! My mom can't even say LGBT in the correct order--she said the "L-B-G-T-Q-X-Y-Z-whatevers" earlier when she was talking about how apparently some of Le GaYs were dehumanizing people by using it/its pronouns. I am cis, but I have friends who use it/its and I don't know if she even realizes that the people using those pronouns are using them *for themselves.* It literally doesn't affect her in any way, shape, or form, because she doesn't know or talk to any queer people... well, except me, but she doesn't know that. And my best friend, who I'm going to be roommates with, hopefully, but she's not out either.
But man, I just cannot wait for move-out day to come... which is soon, but it'll never feel soon enough at this rate. Thanks for listening, I just needed to say this here because I can't afford to snap at them and do something dumb like come out when I know that will just make the situation 100x worse
