Question on whether these foam ringlets are needed in AKG K7XX replacment pads

I've just swapped out my AKG K7XX's original ear pads for Brainwavz XL Large Perforated pads as the old ones were really falling apart.

I know the little foam tuning discs that go between the driver and earpad shroud are needed but what about these foam ringlets that went under the earpads, between them and the removeable mounting bracket?

I'm not sure if they're also necessary for tuning or if they were just a part of the old pads that I had to rip off the mounting brackets so I could reuse the brackets.
