Will a chrome book work for AMS major?

I’m currently looking to buy an tablet or laptop. Since I already have a chrome book, I’m leaning towards the iPad as I would like to be able to take handwriting notes on it. Would a chrome book work for coding classes? If not, what laptop would you recommend?
