With the Penguins-Rangers game going to OT, at least one first-round Game 1 will go to OT for the 22nd-consecutive year

An OT game can be a real momentum shifter...or killer. While we often talk about the series-clinching or elimination-game-survival OT winners, Game 1 OTs can really set the tone for a series too, not to mention, a team's very first playoff game in a given year.

It sounds like this Game 1 OT streak isn't that special, but in the 90s, 5 postseasons didn't have a single Game 1 in the first round go to OT: 1992, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1999.

The 2000 postseason was the last playoff year where none of the first-round series had a Game 1 that went to OT. Even with the Flyers-Pens 5OT game and the Jason Arnott Cup Finals OT winner, that postseason is pretty infamous for the lack of OT games as a whole, with just 9.

As it happens, this Penguins-Rangers game also gives us our first OT affair of this year's playoffs.
