Help Me Understand Scoring
Ok, so I'm an mma fan and I'm starting to have an appreciation for boxing, but I've got a couple questions about the scoring of boxing:
-
What is boxing scoring based off of? Is it just effective damage? Does volume factor in? What about ring control? Defense?

I watched Taylor vs Serrano on Saturday. At first, I thought Serrano had won, but rewatching it yesterday, I had it 95-94 Taylor. However, why was round 5 only a 10-8 for Serrano on 1 card? From my perspective, it looked like the fight could've theoretically been stopped, and that it was a dominant Serrano round. Are 10-8s just that rare in boxing?

How much is corruption a factor in scoring? For instance, I'm planning on watching the Canelo fight Saturday, but it seems like a general sentiment that judges favor him, especially in Vegas. Is this true? Should I factor that in when watching the fight?
I know these are kinda long questions, so thanks for reading through them if you did. Just want to be able to appreciate the scoring of the sport a little better.
