parkinson disease last stage psychological tretment
hi, my father has PD for 22+ years, and he is showing symptoms of dementia, hallucinations, insomnia and some psychological discomfort (fear of hallucinations, or sometimes of falling even when he's in bed).
I'm interested as how to best help and would like to read papers on the subject.
there are many things that are generally ignored by publications that I'd like to know
for example,
- how does levodopa/carbidopa and other (usual) medications affect psychological / non motor functions (dementia, hallucinations, insomnia)
- which medications are beneficial for the psychological health and which are detrimental
- what are their effects long term (what helps, what deteriorates)
- are the "detrimental effects" reversible if patient stops taking said medication(s)
- how does EMS affect non motor functions (psychology)
- how do Stem cell treatment(s) affect non motor functions
I think there should be a scientific paper that outlines all of these... and presents it in the form of a table. So people can have better insight as to what and when is to much
any input would be welcoming, or if anyone has a link/address to an expert/researcher who might be knowledgeable on the subject.
I don't think many "of the shelve" neurologists would know how to answer these questions, so hopefully there's a scientist out there who might have written about it (And if not, someone should! )
any link/direction would be useful.
except for the above info, only medications for non motor treatment that I've come across are Clozapine and Pimavanserin (in case anyone ever wonders). In my case Clozapine was not the best choice of treatment.
