I worry that I won't be able to have a career
Is anyone else worried that they won't be able to have a career?
I'm not diagnosed, but for the past few years I've suspected that I may be on the spectrum due to the chronic struggles I've faced in my life with socializing, forming relationships, and "fitting in."
This belief was solidified even more at my last job when my manager sat me down and basically said I don't have proper communication and interpersonal skills. I felt like an alien when she said that because I struggle with such basic things that come natural to everyone else.
The worst part was that I tried so hard at that job to be friendly to other people. I put myself far outside of my comfort zone and yet it still wasn't enough.
I'm worried that I'm going to face these problems at every job and I won't be able to ever have a well paying and comfortable career job. Everything is focused so heavily on interpersonal communication, verbal presentation, networking, etc. and I try to improve on these aspects but I'm still so behind.
I've gone on many interviews where I've been ghosted afterwards. Ghosted. In this job market that's supposedly incredible and every organization is desperate for people!! I can't help but worry that interviewers can sense that there's something off about me even when I'm putting my best face forward. I've also been battling social anxiety disorder since I was a teenager and that adds more challenges. 🙃
Luckily, I was able to get a job in my field, though it's below the level and pay I should be getting at this point. I can't get out of this under-employed hell.
This is my rant for the day.
