How does Labby work?

I have labby as a part of my crew but whenever I put down the lobster trap I have never gotten any lobsters. And sometimes the trap will say the catch is small for example but it just says $0 earned. I’ve tried setting down the trap for the three hours but same thing happens. Do I need to get a certain item? Do I need a certain perk? Do I need to upgrade her? I just need some direction cause I feel like I’m doing something wrong. Thanks for the help!!
