Why has there been an uptick in the “Indian scammer” stereotype?

I know the stereotype is not new but recently it seems to have become one of the most prevalent Indian stereotypes. Like people will bring it up pretty frequently. Is it because of the “Indian scammer exposed” videos on YouTube?
