keto vs whole food plant based diet for treating PCOS
Hey cysters, I'm wondering if you have had success treating your PCOS with diet and which type has worked for you. I'm having a hard time reconciling the conflicting information between keto and wfpb communities and research. I'm currently doing intermittent fasting, taking spironolactone, and the minipill. I hate being on medication, having crazy cycles, acne, hair etc etc the list goes on, and of course I'm fed up with unhelpful doctors who just treat symptoms and don't help with the actual problem. I'd love to know if you've had success with a special diet.
Here's some info about me:
I have a BMI of 25 (barely overweight), hourglass figure without much abdominal fat, I always have struggled to maintain a healthy weight. I work hard, am active, and eat well and still I'm on the heavy side.
According to my doctor I'm not insulin resistant, I feel like I could be in the early stages of it though. We all know hba1c isn't actually very good at showing insulin resistance, so I'm willing to assume I have it and it's early enough that it's not obvious
My doctor told me inflammation isn't related to PCOS, which I'm sceptical of and I certainly experience inflammation in my joints and I get migraine headaches. There's definitely a chance I'm eating foods that are causing additional inflammation, but I can't pin them down.
I'm getting into distance running which I know isn't the ideal exercise for PCOS due to stress/adrenal involvement, but I'm not in a place where I want to give that up right now. I am however happy to add weight training to my routine :)
