"Harmonious relationship with nature" during an environmental crisis

If he said that man’s relationship with nature is on the whole harmonious, then how do we reconcile the environmental crisis that is occurring at the moment? If the nature of self-consciousness is such that it tends to want to control and manipulate nature, and thereby destroy it in the process, it is difficult to see how that is harmonious, where I understand harmonious as meaning that nature is not destroying itself and is generally growing towards a higher state of health or more “developed, progressed, healthier” state.

If part of the spiritual awakening is to realise that everything is playing out exactly as it’s meant to be (as Watts said) and that disharmony on one level of existence is harmony on a higher level of existence, then what is the higher level of existence, from which humanity’s destruction of the environment can be seen as harmonious?

Or is the nature of “God playing hide and seek” such that the Brahman is making us play tricks and games on ourselves so that our dualistic conscious experience makes it out to seem that we are destroying the world, where in fact what we perceive as the inherently negative destruction is just an illusion? In other words, is our perception of man’s destruction of nature an illusion, and is there some truer-reality where the perception of the bad-ness or unpleasantness of the destruction doesn’t exist?
