Absurd frequency of ads when watching YouTube on my TV

When I watch YT on my smart TV (i.e., not YouTube TV, but rather the YouTube app on my TV), I get ad breaks at aggravatingly short intervals. In some cases, there will literally be at most 5 minutes of actual content between ad breaks. Is this a common issue? I recently visited my brother, and I did not have the same issue when watching on his TV -- the rate of ad breaks was more or less the same as when watching on my phone.
