The Co$t of Having ADHD

Questions/Advice/Support

I was diagnosed in December. I’ve spent so much money to get diagnosed and now that I have a diagnosis I’m spending tons of money too.

After insurance, the total cost out of my pocket including the initial appt, assessment appt, assessment follow up appt, and appt with a different doctor for getting a Rx was about $1,500.

Now, I am on Adderall XR ($48/month with my insurance) and a monthly telehealth appt with my med management doctor for me to basically tell her the same thing each month - “Medicine is working fine. I don’t want to change it.” so she can approve a refill on my Rx ($99/session after insurance).

Then the fun stuff like thinking your kids’ dentist appt is at 2:30 even though you have it in your calendar as 2:00 so the dentist office calls you at 2:03 to see if you’re close but you’ve just arrived to pick them up at daycare. Then they tell you that they can’t see your 3 kids today and you need to reschedule so not only do you have to pay a cancelled appt fee for 3 kids ($25/kid) they don’t have any openings until August.

Anyway…what are your costs? And do you have to have a monthly appointment so your Rx can be refilled or is it just me?
