Is it fine to record using a smartphone audio recorder?
I'm in a collab with someone, and apparently they used their phone to record. They had an interface, audiotechnica at2020 (i think) plugged into their phone via a usb to micro usb adapter. They made sure the recording input was of that, and not the phone mic.
They used Samsung galaxy a52, and the unaltered output would be m4a.
Is this okay to record vocals? Are there any imbedded compressors/coloring/limiters on the phone recorder that can't be bypassed even if you use the interface as an input?
Would it be better to record on a laptop? Or would there not be any significant difference?
