Too afraid of pedophiles and the like - how to protect out kids?

So, I have a one year old and recently read some shocking cases of kids abused by ppl they trust - at school, day care, whatever. Im becoming a little paranoid and feel I can’t trust anyone. What do you do to keep your child safe? How to feel more secure in this world??
