holding b button and down direction at the same time helped catch pokemon

Holding down with the B button in pokemon red/blue till I think ruby sapphire always helped catching pokemon it seemed. And honestly I was doin that b4 I even knew that ppl were actually doin it. I learned it thru random button mashin playin r/b but sum ppl say it really doesn't work but has it worked for u and does it still work currently?? My fav lil pokemon gaming secret
