I just found out this is actually a thing

Self-Story

So I just watched a video on youtube and saw someone mention maladaptive daydreaming and he followed on to explained it. I was really interested in this and just got into investigating it because it was oddly something I was relating to so much. I can't believe this is actually a real thing, I thought this was a random quirk I had but I am so glad to know I am not alone! I am so happy to have found this sub and I am looking forward to reading your experiences and laughing at good meme content :)

(If you are interested in my experience, at the moment there are this three recurring daydreams I keep thinking about, kind of like different worlds each with their own story and timeline. I make and unmake this dreamworlds but at the moment there are three I am visiting a lot, one of which I have been going to for about 4 years now. Although I have gotten into this habit since I was in 6th grade so about 10 years ago. At first I actually thought this was normal but this has gotten to the point that even recurring characters have their own backstories and family tree line. Sometimes I even laugh out loud or feel some kind of rush when daydreaming, and sometimes I will even talk out loud unadvertadly thinking of something I would say. It had gotten to the point that I would think of my life as two different ones so if my actual life was going terrible I would remain calm because I could always go back to my daydreaming life which was amazing.)

Anyway, as I said I am glad to know I am not the only one.

P.S. I am actually curious if there is some kind of medication I could take to be more present in the moment, I saw there are some but I would like to hear if anyone has already tried it and if it really works with decreasing daydreaming.
