My (35 m) wife (36 f) tends to "pile on" when I do something she doesn't agree with.
I'm not sure if there's a word for this (a la Gaslighting) but whenever I do something wrong, or something my wife doesn't agree with, she then finds everything I do wrong or has a problem with it.
Example: we just moved and were gathering up the last few things from her parents' place where we were staying between houses. I was moving an office chair down from upstairs and she offered to help, I said "it's fine I can do it." She did not like that I wouldn't accept her help and then said "why do you want to do it yourself? Just take the help." Fine. I did.
After that, she then kept asking "why won't you take help? I'm offering help just take it! Stop trying to do things yourself." and so on and so on.
She made her point, but she kept going.
Then, I had a few small items that I set aside on a table so I wouldn't forget them. She asked "why are these things here?" "I set them out of the way so I wouldn't forget them..." "WHY DON'T YOU JUST PUT THEM IN THE CAR?!" in the tone of 'you're such an idiot.'
Then she was packing up a box, and closed the lid so I grabbed it. With severe snark she said "guess I'm done with it." I said, "oh. Are you not done? You closed the lid.."
"guess I am!"
"you closed the fucking lid!"
This was all just in one incident, and it happens quite frequently. Is there a word for this? What can I do to stop setting things off like this? People make mistakes... Don't they?
Tl;dr: wife will take constant jabs and digs at me after one mistake and "pile on" with various bits of evidence as to why I'm an idiot.
