I can't help but feel like I could have done more
I witnessed a hit and run two nights ago and it has been weighing on me.
It was like 2:30 am and I was only on that road because I made a wrong turn. I just went through a light, and then I heard a crash behind me and see flames coming from a truck. I made a u turn and checked the truck and another vehicle, both of which were empty. Someone ran up and asked if I was driving and I told them no and they asked if anyone was in the truck or SUV. I told them no.
The driver and a passenger of the SUV was around the corner and I made sure they were ok before asking them to call 911 since my phone was dead. They did but he couldn't get it disconnected from his vehicle so I had to get close to the truck on fire to talk to 911, I gave them info then backed up my car and when I came back, cops were already pulling up so I guess someone else called too but that's when I realized there was another vehicle that was struck and I didn't have the chance to check on them.
Two articles say one person had non life threatening injuries but another said one person was killed.
I keep replaying it in my head and beating myself up for not seeing that other vehicle and now I don't know if they died because I didn't check on them.
It was a stolen truck, too, so that family may never have closure. I don't know how first responders do it.
Now I'm left feeling like I could have done more.
