Just a new flex driver, trying to help another new flex driver.

St. Louis

Completely random, but it was a feel good moment for me. The other day when I was loading my car with packages, and a kind, short, older man approached me, if I had to guess he was in his early 60's. He's said to me "excuse me son, this is my second time delivering, and I was wondering how you organize the packages in your vehicle." He told me that his 1st route was a 3.5 hour block, and it took him 6 hours to complete.

My heart dropped when he told me how long it took him for that, and I can only imagine he had accepted the 1st base pay rate he seen.

I've only did like 6 blocks now, but I told him the way I do it, is to scan 3 or 4 packages at a time, and sort them according in my car by street name. A-M up in in the front seat, N-Z in the back seat, if it's a box it goes in the trunk area.

Before I leave the warehouse, I look at the address of the 1st drop off, find it, and put it right next to me (unless it's a box in the trunk). Once I drop it off, I look at the next drop off address before taking off, and put it next to me. And so on.

Everyone has their own methods, this is mine and most of the time I finish an hour early. I just hope I helped this old man out with his delivery times.
