Imminent Financial Implosion Probable... THANKS, UNNAMED COMPANY!

So, I recently worked through the application process in the tech space. I took some needed time off after Covid imploded my last contract in 2020. (did gig work) Then, 3 months ago I cashed out the last of my tech money investments (at a loss), expecting it to take that full focused time to work through the process. (polish resume, jump through tech hoops) About a month ago, one particular company starting taking my focus and, despite some red flags, I committed to taking the position.

I wrote out the majority of the cautionary tale, but honestly, it's just too sad to keep reliving. lol Basically, I trusted their espousal of "flexibility" and I was too transparent, then they completely flipped the script on me last week and used the exact "flexibility" they previously espoused as a selling point... against me to back out. (after I returned their unchanged agreement signed in full)

I've started firing out applications again, but I'm honestly unsure how I'm gonna pull out of this nose dive in time, at this point. I'm actually looking at stopping all payments, just so I can swing upcoming house and utility payments via GrubHub. (which is about all it will swing, honestly) I have an elderly mother, kid at home, and a kid graduating in 3 weeks where I need to travel... the timing absolutely could not be worse.

So, yeah, a reminder... A) Don't allow any company to drag you along, if at all possible B) Be as minimally transparent and trusting as possible to survive the process C) Keep applying daily until you have an agreement that is fully cosigned (I had several interested companies, and I lagged in the "keep firing" area)

If anyone is looking to fill a position in tech (of any kind), please hit me up!

Point me to an anon email at first, to get my resume, if you want. Also, see my PS.

I have many years experience as an SWE, have dealt with busy sites (1MM+ page views), large DBs (100s of millions of rows), and popular Ecom sites in key roles. I've held Founder (SWE, DBA, etc), QA Lead, and DoE roles. (one of my own projects was crushed mercilessly by Google Corpo, so please, let me know if you can claim that level of street cred haha) I'm likely qualified to learn any role you have without an issue. All that said... I'm, quite apparently, complete s**t at job searching, so be gentle. Good times!

Anyways, I'm available immediately and will literally work along side your Indian dev team, at the same rates (to start), if it avoids some long drawn out dog and pony show. Please, for the love of Pete, and his brother, Jayzus.

I just want to A) Show up B) Do my work effectively C) Get my pay and cause no problems. Simples.

Thanks and stay diligent out there!

Signed, Mr. Anonymous Sucker

PS...

I'm clearly not OE, but I literally do not care if anyone on the planet is OE. I have bigger problems than all that. Also, I think it's crazy when people assume someone is OE for any reason. People not getting their work done could simply have an attention problem or literally any moderate life problem that should take some focus away from work. (I also assume nothing based on Reddit forums. Case in point... I frequent here and Tinder Reddit... I'm not OE or getting laid. Checkmate, sleuths!) My main rule for work is... do your tasks in a timely manner and don't screw over your team if at all possible. That's about all I care about. Otherwise, don't ask, don't tell, IMO. I've managed people. Giving people space, as a manager or coworker, to be humans is an A OKAY thing to do. I support everyone that does that. Kudos to you! :)

PPS Literally finished writing this from a mall parking lot where I'm on GrubHub and only midway through hitting a needed daily money goal to keep things paid... my first order was 5 hours ago... -__- Somebody save me from this hellscape. lmao

... and thanks, Reddit, for the rando username. TOO ADVENTUROUS BEAR!

EDIT: To clarify, the things used against me were tangentially OE related. We had discussed possible "outside work hours" IP and possible second employment, if it wasn't a full time gig. Anddd... they had already indicated afternoons / evenings worked better for them anyway, so I thought "hmmm" about my daytime hours lol Whatever the case, it was all theoretical, and spurred on by convos / details they helped initiate! I cleared my plate and have nothing else on deck at all. Anyway, I think it was just an excuse because I had questions about their contract I wanted clarified in writing, initially. They had already espoused having a dev that was full time 2 places, and the CEO said he sometimes barely works on a call... so their sudden concerns about focus seemed more than baseless. All that said, if I had provided less ammunition to fire back at me, it would have been better. So, be warned, folks!
