In my experience JWs get drunk all the time. But I'm in Wisconsin where people think being an alcoholic is funny.

All the JWS I know drink excessively 🤷‍♀️

I have been to many JW parties, in the past. I have also been to many "worldly" get togethers. There is drinking at the worldly gatherings but not drunk to the level that people are struggling  to stand or walk. The JW gatherings? I have watched many JW's drink to the point that it is embarrassing. 

Alcohol is a big thing amongst the JW's. Even at "the house of God" (beth hell).  The joke in our JW family was, "you never wanted to be the guy who had to take the trash out of Monday morning." The bags were heavy with glass booze bottles. Now that we are out, no such jokes exist. They would even deny those jokes ever happened.

WT and JW's have a thing....it's all in how you look. Plain and simple. It's like polishing a turn, it's still a turd. lol 

Funny thing, I drank like a fish when I was a JW. Now? I hardly touch it. I seem to have gotten my shit together. Funny how that works eh?

I know an endless number of JWs that get stone cold passing out drunk and that it happens to them fairly often. Many Elders just look the other way and will never try to address it. 

IMO, this is not something really new....but has become more common in all areas of the JW world. Previously I would have said that the heaviest drinking for JWs in the U.S. was on the coasts where things are simply more loose/liber0al.

Same way in the northeast, drinking is a way of life for jw’s around here. Elders in my hall don’t care unless they are looking to cause trouble for someone, then that’s the go to “local needs part” and gossip that the elders wives spread around.

I've noticed the same thing, as much as "drunkenness" is mentioned as a sin (heck, all those Watchtower pictures of people partying with drinks that are supposed to be seen as bad!) literally EVERYBODY in my congregation growing up have drinks at parties and get excited about being buzzed. It's such a blatantly ignored rule and no one has ever addressed it.

I took the religion way too serious than most people. I felt so bad everytime afterward after getting drunk...I thought Jah would not forgive me. I felt so guilty everytime I confessed to the elders!  I was condemning my heart so much! I never knew most cool, hip JWs get drunk anyway...would have saved me some heartache.  Yeah it's the Son that most elders don't DF you for. I Amaya diverted why they don't care too much cuz they do it too!

I spent a week in Patterson (bethel) for elders school; on the last day I got invited to a picnic out in the woods by some bethelites. 

Great food. Nothing to drink but alcohol. NOTHING else. No water, sodas, juice…nothing !
We just laughed about it.
Yeah…JWs are a bunch of alchis…bethelites are alcoholics on steroids.

I have a friend in college whom I didn't know was a baptized JW. He never told me after 2 years of our friendship after we chugged a whole bottle of rum(literally) and got drunk. If you judge him by his behavior around our classmates, you wouldn't have any hint of him being a JW.

Ick. Considering that alcohol is poisonous to the liver, that's an unhealthy way to live.

I left before you were born but alcohol was a problem back then from what I remember. They’d gossip about who were really alcoholics but not do anything about it or get anyone help.

Alcoholism and JWs go together like religion and oppression. It's a wonder my poor liver made it out along with me.

Born in here, 22 y.o and not baptised (thankfully), maybe cause of I'm not very social and the appeal of restricting yourself just because does not go very well with me, but yeah damages had been done being in a pimi family.


So the congregation had its first gathering and the party(?) Had the usual greets and foods. But one unbaptised(?) member had prepared drinks, the strong alcoholic kind (gin or the equivalent vodka) mixed with fruit juice. I observed that many brothers maybe all legal age took a drink, and a couple had a few to the point of being groggy and not fit to drive. 2 of them are elders and some had priveledges.

Did the policy updated or the borg allowed to be lightheaded to cope with covid? Well its good that the members slowly goes back to their true selves (not being drunkards tho) but knowing how to have fun organically.

I dont attend much lately because of zoom ( i just turn it on and watch other stuffs) but I'll update with what comes up.
