Hey I'm starting flight school soon and this is the pair I bought

I second this. This is the set I'm currently using for my lessons. I can't hear shit with some others, but with this head set I can actually hear. For the price, 10/10

I have them. They’re fine. They get a little tight sometimes but that may be my big head.

They got me through my PPL and I still have them. You’re right to not get A20s. 1000 bucks is a lot of flying time when you’re a student!

Most def, do this! Put that extra money you save towards your hours!

Thanks all! Guess ill look at the David Clark headets. few second hand ones on marketplace.

I have Dave Clark’s, and used them for a few months, but upgraded to A20’s. If you think you may upgrade at some point, they are definitely worth it.

If you can just get the Bose - you will eventually.

Or, a David Clark 10. whatever.

Yes, i did a fair amount of research because my brother does woodworking and wanted a headset like mine. The QC 35 does not have any noise protection. Noise cancelling does not protect your ears from noise. It makes noise to basically counter the incoming noise rendering it undetectable. This does not protect your hearing. So you're still subjecting your ears to higher decibels without knowing it.

TLDR: Noise cancelling is not DB protection. It makes more noise to counter incoming noise but does nothing to block harmful decibles that headphones with DB protection do.

Hello,
Are you sure of that ?
(I was using an equivalent system and the db reduction was working !)

I was in the same situation has you. you will fly a lot for your ppl so i saw it as a long term thing.

I switched for a lightspeed Zulu, Little bit less expensive than the A20.

I have a pair of QC35, the problem with that setup is they dont offer any ear protection (sound db reduction) which is what you want for aircraft.

NFlight Nomad + QC25/35. Cannot recommend more. You get a QC25/35 for your daily use and put the NFlight on for aviation. Similar Noise cancellation and sound clarity for a fraction of the cost of A20

Im pretty sure there's a pilot shop at our airport (KAPA), ill check it out! Didnt think of seeing if i was able to try some out, thanks!

This is important.

Walk into an actual physical store and try the headsets on. Buy one that you can wear for 3+ hours. It might not be the most expensive one. It will also not likely be the same choice as other people in this thread.

I got my first headset that way for $120. The second one was a secondhand David Clamp. That one doesn't get used much. The third was the ANR version of the first headset (for $400), and I still use it for nearly everything.

As the title says beginning student pilot and looking for advice on a headset. While I would like a pair of Bose A20s... i feel its better to keep it budget friendly for now... Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Rugged Air RA200 aviation headset or any other reasonably priced recommendations for someone starting out.

Thanks!

Student pilot headset recommendations?
