A little help here...

Spoiler

There's going to be a spoiler for Mandalorian in here. And Book of Boba Fett maybe. Just so you know.

So I've recently delved back into the Star Wars universe after a long absence. I grew up on the Original Legends universe (the written canon universe that existed before the Prequels) and I watched Episode I in highschool and... promptly dropped out of the universe as a whole. I ended up watching the rest the prequel movies online, pirated (skimmed them basically) just to get a gist of where the new canon was going, but since then I have neither read a novel or comic nor seen any of the connecting movies or Sequels.

Fast forward to about a month ago, where I finally work up the pique to watch Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett (which HA! The reveal that Boba survived the Sarlacc happened like twenty years ago--nice cherry picking), both of which I enjoy for different reasons, even if some of it made me cringe. (Like Mando using the new canon buzzword 'Strand Cast' and me having to look it up because I haven't watched the newest set of movies--then going WTF, how does Mando even know that shit).

Anyway, here's my dilemma: In the scene where Gideon and Mando's group have their initial standoff (on Navarro), Mando tells everyone in a surprise twist that he knows who Gideon is. That he was ISB during the purges and that he (Din) grew up in the Fighting Corps (whatever that is), swearing the Creed when he was of age. Ok, that's cool. (Get to see Mando's face next scene. Scandalous XD)

But later we find out from Bo-Katan that Din is part of a religious sect. A Child of the Watch (which harkens to Death Watch--yeah I looked stuff up. Even the armor in the flash backs is Death Watch blue) who basically survived because they separated from Mandalorian society (I guess on Concordia, where Death Watch was based according to TCW) so... Which is it? Either Mando was on Mandalore before the purges (records on Mandalore, etc) or he was cloistered away with the Tribe to the point that he didn't know other factions of Mandalorians existed (because terrorist organizations don't register with the government. Right? -Tell me I'm not crazy). To me, this is a huge plot hole.

Factor in Bo-Katan's connection to Death Watch and this becomes more confusing. At least if you're using Clone Wars canon. Because if Children of the Watch are a splinter of Death Watch, then her scorn makes no sense at all. UNLESS the Children of the Watch are splinter of MAULS's Death Watch--which would explain her scorn but like, nothing else. Because the other option is basically ret-conning Death Watch all together and the name (Children of the Watch) is just a nod to it's origins, with them being a tolerated but largely ignored extremist religious sect.

I mean, Mando tries to claim religious exemption on his weapons multiple times and we think this is a joke but... maybe it's not? Anyone have two cents to throw in?
