Turaebuh Soonoozuebatum in Korean
Literally Trevor Snoozebottom

Those lols made me angry for some reason, maybe it's a sign that I should go to bed.

It's basically a literal translation, but keeping most of the fairy feeling. You can just make it sound different, when you translate it back to english, but It's basicaly just a variant of Snoozebottom

Trevor Dorminhão in Portuguese! (Something in the lines of "Trevor Sleepyhead")

Yeah, Trevor doesn't seem like a very localizable name. I wonder if the German team is the only one who did that.

You find something that would convey the meaning

So if a name has a meaning but is untranslatable you just find the nearest thing?

There's always a reason. I don't get why people have this perception that translators change names and stuff for shits and giggles.

Melted my brain when I found out they localized most of the Pokemon main character names.

I personally hate it so much when a characters name gets changed in translation, unless it has a really good reason.

I mean, you described the job of a translator...

Oh yes, there is definitely a reason. However, I personally can't help but think that the reason is mostly (wether this has been decided by translators or someone futher "up" the corporate ladder...) "oh, we need to make it sound COOLER" because people are dumb and can't understand subtlety"

Translation student here:

One law in translation is that you can outright change names and titles to send their message across because names and titles are untranslatable and if they have a significance in the story, they should be changed

Ah yes, for some reason German translators love changing the tiltle of things. That has been bothering me when it comes to movies and books for decades...

Trevor Roupillon in French, "roupillon" being slang for a nap

Mein Freund Herbert! https://youtu.be/nrVD5Y0LIJk

Oh? As an Austrian who HATES yordles (except for Veigar and maybe Heimerdinger) I am absolutely appaled! Thanks for the info!

And don't forget that his german voice line has an austrian accent. I don't know why they did this. Austrians don't look sleepy to me.

I like it. A literal translantion, such as Trevor Schlafmütze, would sound much worse.

Trevor sueño profundo en LAN ( Trevor deep dreams)

Trevor is called "Herbert" in german. What's his name in your language?
