Cody Ko’s Big Lecture at CSUN (Q&A) Pt. 2
Now on to some audience Q&A! You can find the Part 1 to Cody Ko’s Big Lecture here
Divided it so people wouldn’t have to read an essay, haha.
Audience Q: What’s your favorite color?
Cody’s Answer: Mauve. (Mispronounces it, audience corrects him)
Cody: What do you mean ‘What is mauve?’ (laughs)
Audience: It’s mauve! (Maw-v)
Cody’s Answer: It’s mauve, alright! (Mow-v) I’m Canadian, so f*ck you! (laughs) (Audience laughs and cheers)
Audience Q: What’s your favorite Joji song?
Cody’s Answer: Oh f-ck. Oh my god you really just did that to me. You’re like “Yo you’re a fan of Joji huh? So name five songs, what’s your favorite song?” (chuckles) And I mean literally like, I don’t have one. I’m a fake fan! (joking) I mean I like his music, I’m saying I’m a fan of what he did. The transition to music, but I’m not like a super fan of his music, but I love the sh*t he did as Pink Guy. (laughs, audience laughs) It was great right? It was f-cking great! So like I like his new music obviously, it’s just beautiful and everyone likes it but I’m not a super fan of it so I don’t have one. Hold on, let me just pull up the f-cking Spotify list. (takes phone out)
Interviewer: How dare you put Cody on the spot like that, by the way. (joking)
Cody: Embarrassed me dude! (joking)
Interviewer: How dare you! (joking)
Cody: I like ‘Yeah Right.’ I love that one.
Audience Q: What advice would you give to your younger self if you could?
Cody’s Answer: Oh that’s a good question. F*ck. (Audience laughs) Oh, man. (Cody struggling to think). I kinda feel like when I was like 23 and traveling, that was a amazing time. I kind of feel like I partied a little bit too much. And so I would probably tell myself like, build some better habits younger. Cause they get harder to break as you get older. And also like, I feel like I just lost two years of my career because I was just partying. Maybe not two years, just one year. I would probably tell myself to yeah, I don’t know. That’s what I would tell myself. (laughs) Feel like I had a late start to YT, so yeah.
Audience Q: Will you bring back That’s Cringe?
Cody’s Answer: I don’t know. Maybe, one day. We’ll see.
Audience: Nothing’s cringe nowadays!
Cody: Nothing’s cringe nowadays? (laughs)
Interviewer: What do you watch? (laughs)
Cody: (laughs) No, I don’t know like, we.. it just feels like it’s… I don’t know. Even saying ‘That’s Cringe’ feels lame to me now, you know. Nah, maybe we’ll bring it back one day. We’ll see.
Audience Q: I’ve been struggling super hard recently and I really love your content, your jokes, and your humor, so I just look up to you. How do you deal with that? (Mental health, depression, etc.)
Cody’s Answer: That’s a good question. I believe that you’ve been working hard. I don’t know man, it’s hard. I still haven’t figured it out, to be honest. Like I go through weeks where all I wanna do is surf and hang out, not think about things and then I go through weeks where I’m like, all I can think about is what I wanna do and what I wanna accomplish. And I have no balance, is what I’m saying. So I f*cking, I’m still trying to figure it out. I wish I had a solution to that, I wish I had a good answer to your question, but I just don’t. It’s so hard. (Trying to be relatable/understanding of the student’s situation)
Audience Q: Where do you shop? Your shirt is fire.
Cody’s Answer: (Indulging in the compliment to his style) Kelsey got this shirt for me. I shop anywhere. I thrift.
Audience Q: Was there a specific moment that you knew you wanted to marry Kelsey?
Cody’s Answer: I think I always knew. The night we met, I remember we were texting after we hung out. And I took a screenshot of our text messages and sent it to one of my friends and said, ‘I think I met my wife.’
