Help with a career path

Question

Hey everyone, just looking for some help. I've been in telecom sales for about 10 years and always wanted to jump into IT but I live in a small city and my wife has a good career here so I don't want to move so I always told myself I'd have to move for a good job and never acted on it. But now that remote jobs are a lot more available I don't have an excuse anymore and am jumping in.

While I'm not in a hurry to swap, I'm not getting any younger either so I'm looking for a job that can get me in the door and then I can pivot to a better/different job once I have all the skills necessary. I don't have a degree but I used to program in high school so I can learn again. I've found a job called a "cloud technical support engineer" that seems to me is basically a help desk for cloud services job. It seems that since I have 10 years of sales/customer service experience, that would be a perfect bridge between my old career and new.

I can't seem to find out what I need on my resume to land a job though. I was thinking the AWS cloud practitioner and the Azure equivalent, then brushing up on Linux and python, then building some cloud projects, then start applying. Should I go for a higher cert? Is there a better starting job? I plan on eventually going the architect route or the DevOps route eventually but I figured getting in the door first would be wise. Thanks for the help
