I just spent 2 hours getting my birds in the cage. I can't take it anymore.

I just spent 2 hours getting my birds in the cage. I can't take it anymore, They keep screaming and biting me, even when I have done everything correct they just NEVER go back to their cage. I really need a way to make this easier. the cage is in the basement, where I sleep. its in another room and they usually go to play upstairs. when I try to take them down the stairs they immediately fly away. and there is nothing I can do about it. their bedtime is 7PM, and now its 9:45PM when I got them in their cage. I actually can't take this anymore, what do i do?
