cleaning tips for a 100 year old house
hi, i’m looking for any tips and tricks that you cleaning-savvy folks in this sub may have for keeping a 100 year old house more fresh and clean! it’s such a wonderful and unique space but boy is it tough to keep nice.
the list below covers most of the issues my fiancé and i have been dealing with, but i’m also hoping that someone might potentially have additional advice for just caring for an older house in general. it’s also worth it to note that we’re renting this house, we’ve lived here for a few years. thank you so much in advance to anyone who can provide any thoughts or advice for us!!
- our kitchen cabinets are wooden, but the landlord painted over them with white paint sometime long before we moved in. they’re constantly dingy and look dirty no matter what i do. is there anything i can try that might help keep them nice and white?
- we have a cat and a dog who both shed mountains of fur 24/7, which contributes heavily to the constant layer of dust that covers everything in the house. it feels like the moment i dust, there’s immediately more dust, like i didn’t do anything at all. any advice for keeping our house less dusty with not-so-good ventilation??
- because the house is so old, i have a really, really hard time keeping the bathroom looking and smelling nice. the ventilation isn’t the best and the bathroom is incredibly small (i think they must have rearranged it, the door literally can’t open all the way because the tub stops it). the walls get covered in a layer of moisture and it kills my body to be constantly trying to wipe down the walls. any advice for this?
again, thank you so much to everyone in this sub! i’ve learned a lot lurking here in the past, and i appreciate any help anyone can give.
