Major changes to Directive on Service and Digital published today?

Other / Autre

DoSaD has been the law of the land for a handful of years, and I was surprised this morning to find that a major rewrite of the thing was published this morning. The standard on systems that manage information is now in there (which is awesome) but all the enterprise architecture stuff is gone (particularly regarding licensing and interoperability)!

All the other policy instruments and guidelines out there now have broken references to sections that got moved around - is there anyone with an inside track on what CIOB/GCEARB are doing?

While i don't know for sure, some of the changes are likely due to the shift from an on-premises to Cloud focus happening in the GoC.

That's the stuff that's been removed. It was all in Appendix A yesterday. Section A.2.3.11 was what mandated "cloud first".

Cloud? That's obsolete 2021 technology. The hottest new trend is decentralized custom software from small suppliers. ^/s

I swear, every time I finish doing a policy exercise to map R&R, TBS does major work to a policy.

Maybe GOC realized cloud is expensive, in some cases more expensive then local data centres.

What the heck. If they took out EA, maybe they’re coming out with something EA-specific? I’m not at TBS but work in that general sphere and haven’t seen anything go by about this.

I sure hope so. The guidelines on the EA wiki are all still there, but they don't have the force of policy behind them.

the internal wiki probably gonna be updated later, it tends to be updated behind the times if at all. I've seen tons of wikis fall to the wayside because some new analyst comes in and makes a totally new page with updated information instead of hitting the edit button.

I would hope that the EA wiki gets updated faster, at least when I managed it in its infancy as a student who built it from the ground up it took a couple days from when things got approved and published to detail on the wiki, and they seem to maintain it decently which warms my heart just a little to this day.

I think they took it out because it was all very vague.

100%, it’s an issue

I have no idea what this post means.

The ELI5 is that the directive that tells us how we're supposed to adopt and deploy technology got trimmed back overnight, with nothing obvious to replace it.

The EA is still referenced - it’s just the Annex that is gone.

Ensuring that departmental initiatives submitted to the GC Enterprise Architecture Review Board align with the GC Enterprise Architecture Framework, the GC Standards on Application Programming Interfaces, and the Government of Canada Digital Standards. The Enterprise Architecture Framework is the criteria used by the GC Enterprise Architecture Review Board and departmental architecture review boards when reviewing digital initiatives to ensure their alignment with enterprise architectures across business, information, application, technology and security domains to support strategic outcomes;

There is a GCConnex site for policy update reviews/comments before they are published but I don’t have that link handy.

And the GCcollab wiki is still there: https://wiki.gccollab.ca/GC_Enterprise_Architecture

You could always email the folks managing the policy and they can probably give you some amount of answer. That's what I'd do personally.
