Popular feature was turned on by default. Instructions for disabling entirely or per-language here:

I hope it's faster than the extension, because that used to be slow as *.

.*

fixed your regexp for you.

It is a LOT faster, they even made an article about how they did it: https://code.visualstudio.com/blogs/2021/09/29/bracket-pair-colorization

It's much faster.

It's in the patch notes; function of VSCode they decided should be on by default.

However ugly you think it is, keep it on. It's very helpful for readability.

Is it actually worth persevering with them? I find it super distracting.

1
Stysner•

I think they are. I don't find them distracting at all. If you made a mistake somewhere (like a bracket too few or many) it's immediately obvious which one is the culprit. Also things like Method(array[index[index2]]) just read at a glance.

Its called bracket pair colorization. You can change it in the settings.

Because the code for this colour is #b00b69

thanks for asking this, I noticed too but I don't have time for searching why it happened.

Why is your script just called e? I like it personally.

Stupid new defaults. Add this setting: "editor.bracketPairColorization.enabled": false

Did you possibly install a rainbow brackets extension? It color codes your brackets to help follow code blocks, parentheses, etc

that seems to be what it is, except i haven't added any extensions and i only have c# installed

It's a native feature now

thanks, i found a video on how to disable and enable it. wonder how it got enabled though? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZC2_OMaEpc just replace true with false)

1
Stysner•

Read the patch notes: they made it default to on, that's how it got enabled: the patch did it.

Same thing happened to me, something changed without us changing anything.
