[Routine Help] Finally saw a dermatologist as an adult, how do I get the best results?
I’m a 21 year old woman and am just seeing a dermatologist for the first time. I’ve struggled with acne for close to 10 years and it never got better, I’ve had a combination of blackheads and hormonal acne that caused lots of dark spots.
I finally made an appointment and got a prescription today for 100mg spironolactone and a topical medicine of 0.025% tretinoin and 15% Azelaic acid. I used 0.018% tret before and really liked it, used Azelaic acid in the past but I’ve never used spironolactone or had a combination of oral and topical medicines.
What should I expect from this? I wasn’t explained much at the consult and I know it should take some time to see results but I’m really excited. Are there any other things I should know about this routine? Also what works best with medication like this? I was told to use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, is it okay if I stick with my La Roche-Posay hydrating cleanser and cerave moisturizer? Also, I don’t use sunscreen (oops). What’s the best option that’s good on a budget?
