How to earn laurels?

I just tuned into this event. I see the vendor sells stuff for laurels, i read i just have to do some content and kill enemies with class abilities to earn some. I've done 3 strikes and so far no laurels.

Is there any info somewhere in the game about all of this that i've missed?
