Does this lump/spot on my face require medical attention?

Physician Responded

Hi doctors,

Im 30M, 5ft10 or 11, around 11 stone, Irish. No existing major medical issues (that I know of), no medication. I drink occasionally, I smoke weed basically every day, but no other drugs.

Just under 2 months ago, a small bump appeared on my upper lip. At first I thought it was a spot (like a whitehead/acne thing) but im sure thats not what it is now. After a week and a quick holiday I thought maybe it was some form of cold-sore as a cold-sore appeared on my bottom lip. The cold-sore cream healed the bottom lip but not the upper so I figured that wasn't it. After that I started putting Savlon cream on it everyday (its my mum's solution for everything so I thought i'd try that) but after a week or so, it was not healing.

As it is now, it is very like a spot in terms of size and colour, but the texture has become almost pointy, almost like a tuft of grass, with individual bits pointing out. Also some hair from my mustache appears to just be going right through it, between the gaps left between the "points". It is occasionally painful, last weekend I was in London for a music festival, and Saturday was quite sunny so I went for a walk in the morning. In the afternoon I felt the mornings sun on my face, but the spot was kind of stinging, same thing after a hot shower, or if i poke at it.

So my questions are, what is this thing? Do I need to go to a doctor? Is there any cream or anything that may make it heal?
