What's living in Hoboken/JC like?

I currently live in Philly, but used to live in Brooklyn. I love the vibrance of NYC, but I was wondering if JC/Hoboken could also be a good option? I work in the medical field and would take a big pay cut to live in NYC given the taxes and other things.
