PGY4 MD/MPH here
Hey so MD/MPH here…I’m about to enter my fourth year of residency and I just want to cheer you all on! I’d like to emphasize that if you don’t get into med school there are lots of other things out there. When I was applying I was so singular in what I wanted I didn’t see any other path as an option, but there are literally thousands of other things to do. I’m saying this bc medicine in a VERY SHITTY path at times, and if you think you’re depressed and broke now…just wait…it gets worse and it likely WILL GET WORSE FOR YOU. I’m saying this bc now I’m seeing the light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel and I can say without a doubt that I would not do this again. I’m happy I did it, I love my specialty, but damn it’s been absolutely awful and I don’t even have any debt. So if you don’t get in, consider yourself lucky in a way, and see it as the world opening itself up to you in a way that would never happen otherwise. Keep your chin up, your success as a person does not hinge on med school acceptance.
